Chemometric Schools

Every year the Research Group of Analytical Chemistry and Chemometrics, of the Department of Pharmacy of the University of Genoa organizes in Genoa two one week schools of Chemometrics, dedicated to multivariate analysis and multivariate design of experiments respectively.

These schools provide the necessary theoretical background, giving special emphasis to the practical aspects related to the development and the application of chemometric strategies.

In both schools a preliminary session, with optional attendance, will be dedicated to the basics of univariate statistics and to the introduction to the topics of the other school (introduction to Experimental Design in the school of Multivariate Analysis; introduction to PCA in the school of Experimental Design).

Besides the theoretical lessons, hands-on-computer sessions will be performed by using free software.

Important: starting from May 2019, participants will be expected to have their own laptop.

Some indications concerning the preparation of the laptop will be provided to the students, after confirmation of registration.

The School of Multivariate Analysis introduces and deepens the main multivariate data analysis techniques. The main topics discussed are Principal Component Analysis (its diagnostics and its applications in multivariate quality control and multivariate process monitoring will also be treated, together with an introduction on N-way PCA), Classification and Class Modelling Techniques (mainly, LDA, QDA and SIMCA), Multivariate Calibration Techniques (mainly, MLR and PLS).

The School of Experimental Design presents the experimental design strategies describing the most commonly used designs (Full Factorial Designs, Screening Designs, Fractional Factorial Designs, Central Composite Design, Doehlert Design, D-Optimal Designs, Designs with qualitative variables having more than two levels, Mixture Designs, Mixture-Process Designs). Special emphasis will also be given to Multicriteria Decision Making (finding the best compromise with more than one response).

The dates for 2020 are:

January 13 - 17: Multivariate Analysis (in english)
June 8 - 12: Experimental Design (ONLINE Editiondue to health emergency)
September 21 - 25: Multivariate Analysis (online course)
November 9 - 13: Experimental Design (in english - online course)

All the schools begin at 10am on Monday and end at 1pm on Friday.
